Rosette API asks, “お元気ですか?”

Or, How are you feeling?
Kon’nichiwa, dear readers! The Rosette development team is thrilled to bring you our beta launch of Japanese sentiment analysis in Rosette API 1.5!
Sentiment analysis 101
Sentiment analysis is the automation of recognizing and scoring attitudes, opinions, and emotions in unstructured text. It allows you to quickly determine whether an author’s attitude towards their subject matter is positive, negative, or neutral. In addition to document-level analysis, Rosette also evaluates the sentiment of an author towards individual entities within a larger text. Sometimes called “aspect-level” sentiment analysis, this feature allows you to drill down deeply into the nuances of a single document.
Sentiment analysis is widely applied to customer reviews and social media posts for a variety of applications:
- Buyer satisfaction and product recommendations
- Call centers and support communities
- HR systems to predict employee churn
- National security to monitor signals for threat or risk
- Financial risk and volatility management
- Political polling and election predictions
- Market trends and disruptions
- The case for multilingual sentiment
Like all areas of natural language processing, sentiment analysis performed in a document’s native language is vastly more accurate than analysis performed on a translation. Languages are messy and complex, and every transformation you apply to your raw text opens the door to corrupting meaning and and adding inaccuracies.
As the online consumer marketplace becomes increasingly globalized, an unprecedented amount of unstructured, multilingual text data is being created. Rosette gives you the tools you need to access that wealth of knowledge about your users and potential customers, regardless of the language they use.
To help you in this quest, Rosette sentiment analysis is now available in English, Spanish, and Japanese, with more languages in the works!
Why Japanese?
The United States and Japan have long been major economic forces within their respective hemispheres and the world market. While the two nations benefit from close trade ties in many industries such as manufacturing and automotives, collaboration in the technology sphere and particularly software has lagged behind.
Historically, the Japanese tech economy has been dominated by large corporations. However, recently, the startup scene has exploded, leading to a rush of new innovation. Furthermore, Japanese investors are feeling bullish about this new economy: from 2014 to 2015, venture capital fundraising in the country doubled from $1 billion to $2 billion. In this burgeoning new market, Rosette’s Japanese sentiment analysis can connect companies to customers and businesses to partners.
Perhaps the better question would have been, “Why not Japanese?”
