Project Manager

Basis Technology has an opening for an experienced Project Manager to work in our software development group. In this position, you will manage a range of projects, including internal product development releases, ad-hoc internal assignments, and client-facing projects. Working with executive management, clients, stakeholders and software engineers, you will determine the scope of product releases and other projects, direction and goals, milestones, deliverables and scheduling. You will also support a group of diverse team members in an Agile/Scrum framework, as well as provide them with guidance in prioritization of issues and work items. During the course of each project, you will provide status reports, escalate issues, lobby for resources and track costs. Responsibilities also include coordinating software quality assurance testing, bug reporting, and verification. An ideal candidate will facilitate timely product releases, high quality deliverables and visible results.

This is a full-time position, available immediately in our Cambridge, MA office.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred but will consider candidates with a bachelor's degree in other fields
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing software development projects
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of Agile software practices (e.g. Scrum, XP)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with multiple competing and shifting priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork/team-building skills with a talent for building consensus and working effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills and committed customer service focus
  • Strong ability and interest in learning and applying new technologies and products rapidly
  • Willingness and ability to travel if required
  • Self starter who actively takes initiative to get the job done
  • A drive for successfully delivering projects on schedule and inspiring teams
  • Ability to obtain a US government security clearance if needed
The following skills are helpful, but not required
  • Proficiency in a foreign language
  • Experience working with co-located or geographically distributed team members
  • Experience with search or natural language processing projects
  • Knowledge of the Web, HTML, SQL, databases, NT or Unix command shell scripting

Natural Language Processing Scientist

Basis Technology has an opening for a Natural Language Processing Scientist to work on our research and development team. In this position, you will join leaders in text analysis to build and enhance linguistic capabilities of our products.

This is a full-time position, available immediately.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Create statistical models for text analysis
  • Implement production-quality Java and C/C++
  • Collaborate with an Agile team to research new ideas and develop them into products

Qualifications

  • PhD or Masters in relevant subject area (e.g., Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science)
  • 2-5 years experience with NLP / Computational Linguistics / Machine Learning
  • 2-5 years experience with Java, C/C++ or similar object-oriented programming language
  • Experience with Python or a similar programming language
  • Excitement for elegant ideas and high-quality implementations
  • Speaking, reading and writing ability in languages other than English is a plus, especially Asian or Middle Eastern languages

Junior Software Engineer

Basis Technology has an opening for a Junior Software Engineer to work in our Development group. In this position, you will join leaders in text analysis to build and enhance linguistic capabilities of our products for document analysis and entity processing. Programming languages used include Python, Java, and C++.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or similar
  • Ability to program in Java or C/C++
  • Knowledge of Python or similar language (e.g., Perl)
  • Able and willing to absorb new information quickly and switch gears easily
  • Speaking, reading and writing ability in languages other than English is desirable
  • Experience in linguistics is a plus
